Fall in Love with Washi Tape

WashiTapeEnjoy

I have to admit it – I was a bit slow to warm to Stampin’ Up!’s Washi Tape.  I just wasn’t sure how to use it at first.  Then I started experimenting, and now I’ve become a huge fan!  I also love looking through catalogs for inspiration.  And I love Vera Bradley!  I love the color interplay in her patterns.  And I just received the catalog for this year’s new designs.  Here’s one of my favorites!

VeraBradlyBag

Yes, there’s inspiration for card making all around us!  While my card isn’t totally the same as the Vera Bradley bag, it was a wonderful start to a new card design.

  • In order to have the right colors of Washi Tape to repilcate the colors in the bag, I chose Playful Palette and Affectionately Yours Designer Washi Tapes.  My idea was to replicate the center square of the bag.
  • I cut a piece of Whisper White Cardstock that measured 3-3/4″ x 5″ as the base to build my Washi Tape piece.
  • I really didn’t have a plan – and you don’t have to either!  I just started putting strips of the Washi Tape in different sections of the Whisper White Cardstock – a few rows and then switch directions.  Keep those Paper Snips handy for clean, straight edges!
  • Once I finished the background, then I needed a sentiment.  And one of this year’s best sentiment stamp sets is Layering Love.  One of the heart framelits in the Sweet & Sassy Framelit collection was perfect to cut it out of the Mint Macaron Cardstock.
  • Wonder why Stampin’ Up! discontinued our black embossing powder?  Well, so did I!  Until I realized that with our new Archival Black Stamp Pad and Clear Embossing Powder, I can still have that embossed look.  Just stamp with the Archival Black Ink, pour on the Clear Embossing Powder and heat set with the Heat Tool.  The Embossing Buddy before hand ensures that little bits of embossing powder won’t cling to the cardstock.
  • What could be more fun than the new Enamel Shapes – in all sorts of colors!  I used a Melon Mambo Enamel Heart from the Brights Assortment to cover up the heart from the stamp.
  • Add Dimensionals to the back of your heart, adhere it to this beautiful background, and you’re done!

Retro Fresh Thank You

Retro Thank You

I'm having so much fun with Stampin' Up!'s Circle Mongram Stamps.  Create address labels, a stamp for the back of your handmade cards, personalize gifts and goodies and more!  They're easy to design – I've made and ordered three so far.  This one is for creating thank you cards and stamping on the envelopes as well.

My card started with a fun sketch from one of my team members.  We have a weekly sketch challenge on our Team Facebook page, and this is the one posted for last week:

CASE of the Mondays 5-001

It's the first place I start when designing a card – I've just got to have a good sketch!   See how easy it is to just plug in your images and supplies!

  • This layout drew me to the Retro Fresh This and That Washi Tape.  It almost looks just like it!  That built the basis for my color scheme, but I did decide to soften the look by using Pool Party cardstock and ink.  It matches and is a little softer look.
  • Next element was that I wanted to show off my  new personalized Circle Monogram Stamp.  I've already ordered three different ones – they're really addicting!  And they're so easy to create!  Just enter the item code 132852 in my online store and up pops a screen where you can design what you want in the different locations on the stamp.  Choose to create a personalized stamp for the backs of your cards, an address stamp or whatever you can think of!  I've done a "hand cancel" stamp for my precious hand-stamped cards.  I've also designed one to congratulate my team members for their achievements.
  • Gorgeous Grunge seems to be my "go to" stamp set these days when I need a little something extra on my card.  Here are all the wonderful images you get in this set.

gorgeous grunge

  • Lots of Stampin' Up! circle punches made this card a snap!  My favorite corner rounder of all time is the one built into the Envelope Punch Board – two tools for the price of one!
  • A cute Naturals Button and some Linen Thread complete my quick and easy card.

Combining the old and the new!

Davina's m&t

This is the perfect card to post today!  Today's the final day to order any retiring stamp sets or accessories and it's also one of the first days to order brand new Stampin' Up! products – and this card has both!  It was designed by team member Davina Ahlgrim for a make & take project at one of our team times.

  • Mixed Bunch stamp set coordinates with the Blossom Punch to create the pretty flowers.  The stamp set is retiring today!
  • The First Edition Specialty Paper is punched out with the Boho Blossom Punch.  Not only is this great designer paper retiring, but it's already gone.  But I have a solution for you!  There's a new background stamp called "Dictionary" – it's perfect to stamp on Very Vanilla cardstock and punch out – Boho Blossom Punch did not retire.
  • The thank you sentiment has carried over to the new catalog; you'll find it in Delightful Dozen stamp set.
  • New to the 2013-14 catalog is washi tape – you're gonna LOVE it!  This great trio is Epic Day This and That Washi Tape which coordinates with a whole suite of products.  It's so easy to use and looks terrific!
  • We all love the versatile embossing folders, and the Honeycomb Embossing Folder is a must!  I really like how it's used on just part of the background, leaving a flat surface for the sentiment.
