Time to Celebrate Hostess Stamp Set

Time to Celebrate

When I saw the new hostess-exclusive stamp set in the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog for the first time, I squealed with delight over this cute little worm and the sentiment “worm wishes”.  And you’ll love working with this versatile stamp set, too, called Time to Celebrate.  Place an order of at least $150, and you can take host benefits of $25 AND three Sale-A-Bration gifts!  Now’s the time to stock up on all your basics – cardstock, envelopes and adhesives, to name a few – and take advantage of the extra perks.

  • I love using the Stampin’ Up! Decorative Masks.  For THESE CARDS, I used the polka dot mask that comes in the set of two masks called Dots & Stripes Decorative Masks.  (I won’t go into quite as much detail here and you can refer to the instructions for the polka dot mask to help with this card.)  For my card today, I used the stripes, and it couldn’t be easier to be successful with this fun technique.
  • I’ve cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock at 4″ x 5-1/4″ then placed it on a protected surface.  I use a grid mat with a piece of Grid Paper on top.
  • Lay the Decorative Mask over the top of the white cardstock, being careful to keep the stripes straight.
  • I filled a Stampin’ Spritzer with rubbing alcohol and Melon Mambo Ink Refill.  It takes quite a few drops of ink – just add more if your color isn’t as vibrant as you’d like.  Then I lightly misted the paper with the Spritzer.  You don’t want to oversaturate because it will cause puddling.  I did just a tiny bit in the bottom right corner.
  • Mixing the ink with rubbing alcohol rather than water eliminates the water splatter marks on your cardstock and helps the ink dry more quickly.  The rubbing alcohol evaporates, leaving just the ink behind.

  • The Party Pennants Bigz Die and the Big Shot cut out the Basic Black cardstock piece in a snap.  I also used the Big Shot with a Circle Framelit to create the main image.
  • Be sure to stamp your image using Memento Black Ink if you’re using Blendabilities to color your image.
  • I kept the coloring simple – just a touch of Melon Mambo and Wild Wasabi from the Blendabilities markers.  These new alcohol-based markers just glide over the cardstock!  They’re so fun to use.  And you don’t have to have a large area and do a lot of shading with them – they work beautifully as just a solid image.
  • A small piece of Melon Mambo 1/8″ Taffeta Ribbon and a Daffodil Delight Candy Dot from the Brights Candy Dots package are all the accents you need for this cute card.

Bokeh technique with Best Day Ever

BestDayEver

I tried my hand at the bokeh technique (pronounced BOH-kay ) which is actually a photography technique but works beautifully with stamping, too.  Creating a beautiful background, I wanted to keep the overall card really simple, so adding a sentiment is about all that’s necessary.  Here I used Best Day Ever, a 2015 Sale-A-Bration stamp set that you can get free with a qualifying purchase.  Here’s how you’ll create this pretty background:

  • Cut a template out of scrap cardstock using Circle Framelits and the Big Shot.  You could also use various circle punches – just pick a few different sizes.  Here’s what my template looked like for this card:

  • Using Watercolor Paper, various stamp pads and an Aqua Painter, color randomly, blending lightest color to darkest and overlapping in some places.  I used Pool Party, Lost Lagoon, Perfect Plum and Blackberry Bliss.
  • Dry thoroughly before the next step.  If you want to move on, use the Heat Tool on dry setting No. 1 to hurry it along.
  • Use your circle template and apply Whisper White Craft Ink with a Sponge Dauber over the watercolored paper.  Pick different sizes and overlap them.

  • To complete my card, I stamped “Best Day Ever” onto Vellum Cardstock using Stazon Black Ink.  In order to attach the Vellum Cardstock to my card and not have adhesive show through, I used Mini Silver Brads.
  • I added a simple Pool Party cardstock flower punched with the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack flower.  The center is a Rhinestone colored in with a Melon Mambo Blendabilities.  Yes, they’re not just for coloring in your images – you can color pearls, rhinestones and buttons with them, too.

Faux Bleaching technique

Dare to Dream

I had lots of fun playing with some new supplies and a new technique creating this card to congratulate my team members on a great month of sales and recruiting.  There are three or four things I want to point out about this card:

  • I began this card wanting to show you an idea for the terrific Butterfly Bundle sale going on through the end of September.  This great sale combines the Bitty Butterfly Punch and the coordinating stamp set Papillion Potpourri for a 15% off savings.  For details on these two great products, click HERE.  I used the Bitty Butterfly Punch to punch out lots of butterflies out of scrap paper, then arranged them on my Soft Sky cardstock.  I used a Spritzer filled with rubbing alcohol and Marina Mist reinker and spritzed over the butterflies.  When I removed the masks, it looks like the bleaching technique but much easier!
  • I also used the Papillion Potpourri stamp set to stamp the Crisp Cantaloupe butterfly twice – once directly on the Whisper White cardstock, the other on a scrap piece and punched it out with the same Bitty Butterfly Punch.  I added a bit of glitter and popped it up with a Dimensional.
  • And of course, I just had to make a custome envelope for my card using the brand new Envelope Punch Board.  You won't believe how simple it is to use this innovative new tool!  And I just love the coordination factor!

Here's a larger picture of the full card:

Dare to Dream 2

Color scheme is Soft Sky, Midnight Muse and Crisp Cantalopue.  Notice the Midnight Muse border around the spritzed butterflies?  I've used my new Rotary Trimmer Additions to create the pretty scallops – more details on this great new tool HERE.
