Doodles of Thanks
Zentangle is the art of fine doodling, and it’s fun, relaxing – even meditative – and can be incorporated into your stamping. The Stampin’ Up! single stamp called Blended Bloom along with Stampin’ Up!’s Project Life Journaling Pens work perfectly for trying out this fun technique.
As I was researching my post, I came across this fabulous work of art by Pat Perry . Pat has taken zentangle to the ultimate level in this stunning drawing below.
Of course, we’re not all “Pats” – I certainly don’t come even close – but we can enjoy creating a little zentangle on our hand-stamped cards.
Stamp the image using a StazOn Black Stamp Pad. Use the fine tip of the Journaling Pen to start doodling inside each petal. Remember, this is supposed to be fun, so don’t stress about perfection! Once it’s finished, it’ll look beautiful!
The rest of the card was kept pretty plain so that the zentangle piece can really shine.
- I used Calypso Coral Cardstock for the card base, but really any color will work.
- I adhered a square piece of Vellum Cardstock to the base then wrapped a piece of Linen Thread around it.
- I did it again! I used the “thanks” from a current Stampin’ Up! stamp set, but I can’t for the life of me figure out which one! Leave me a comment if you can find the stamp set this sentiment comes from!
- Chalk Lines stamp set was used to create the pretty design at the bottom, stamped tone-on-tone using a Calypso Coral Stamp Pad.
- A small piece of Sweet Sadie Washi Tape decorates the end of the sentiment, and I’ve added a few Rhinestones colored with a black sharpie.
Here’s a close-up to show you some of the patterns I used. Have fun thinking up your own patterns, too!

Blended Blooms and Moonlight
This card features lots of brand new Stampin’ Up! products you’ll want to put on your wish list to order on June 2nd – new stamps, In Colors, ribbon, designer paper and cardstock!
- Let’s start with this great new designer paper. It’s called Moonlight, and it’s a 4-1/2″ x 6-1/2″ paper stack for just $6.95 – so useful and economical for card makers! Colors are Basic Gray, Blackberry Bliss, Hello Honey, Lost Lagoon, Sahara Sand and Whisper White.
- Are there some names in that list you don’t recognize? They’re the new In Colors for 2014-16! Check out my IN COLOR CLUB to get all of your supplies more affordably.
- The featured stamp set is called Blended Bloom and is a single wood-mount stamp. You’re going to be THRILLED to know that we now carry a black Memento Ink Pad. It was initially added to our product line to use with our upcoming Blendabilities markers, but let me tell you, it’s going to be your most favorite black ink ever! It’s similar to StazOn ink in that it gives nice, crisp lines to your stamped images, and it also doesn’t bleed when using the Aqua Painter with it, but it cleans off your stamp completely without leaving any staining to the rubber. Don’t think I’ll be using another black ink again now that I have my Memento Ink Pad! I’ve colored this image with my Aqua Painter and Lost Lagoon and Hello Honey stamp pads.
- The “happy birthday” sentiment is from another great new stamp set called Something to Say. Think lots and lots of great sentiments with a couple of cute images that line up with the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack (yet another new product!).
- And last but not least is the new 2014-16 In Color Ribbon in Hello Honey. I’m so glad we have a good substitute for our retiring Summer Starfruit! This great yellow has a little less brown and is a little more vibrant. It’s definitely a good addition to our Stampin’ Up! colors! And the ribbon ties so nicely! Join my In Color Club and receive 2 yds. of each of the 5 new colors of In Color Ribbon!
