Pretty Petals and a great layout

Watercolor wings

I love having a super sketch to start out my card designs!  And the folks at Mojo Monday have a great new sketch every week.  Here was the sketch for last week:

Mojo407sketch

  • See how quick and easy your cards come together with a wonderfully balanced layout?  I’ll tell you a bit about my card in case you want to duplicate it.
  • Another fabulous tool to quick and easy cards are the designer papers from Stampin’ Up!  This card features Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper Stack, which comes in a 6″x6″ packet – 48 sheets, 4 each of 12 double-sided designs.  The possibilities are endless!  I chose the butterflies and then simply built my color scheme around that paper.  And the little butterfly is punched out of another pattern using the Bitty Butterfly Punch.  Here are some of the other terrific patterns:

Pretty Petals DSP

  • And here’s a link to view another card I made using Pretty Petals – click HERE to view.
  • The 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon has been a terrific addition to our new Annual Catalog.  Here I’ve used Pacific Point to coordinate.
  • The heartfelt sentiment comes from Watercolor Wings stamp set.  It’s my most favorite new stamp!  Who wouldn’t like to receive a card acknowledging how precious life’s moments are with them!
  • All three circles come from Stampin’ Up! Punches – 1″, 1-3/4″ and 2″.  The Pacific Point and Old Olive cardstock circles are run through the Big Shot with the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder for some added texture.
  • My accessories continue with a small Pearl and Rhinestone, as well as some Gold Thread behind the sentiment.

World of Dreams and Pretty Petals

World of Dreams1

I love the combination of World of Dreams stamp set and Pretty Petals designer paper from Stampin’ Up! – the images look so nice with the paper prints! This is a very special card I designed to give to a friend who is moving away.  There’s a going away party for her this week, and I wanted to be sure to be ready with something particularly nice.  Because of that, I pulled out all the stops, decorating the envelope front and back as well as the inside of the card.

  • The color scheme in the Pretty Petals paper is Mint Macaron, Calypso Coral, Old Olive, Basic Black and Very Vanilla.  It’s easy to find what your layering colors should be from the designer paper colors!
  • I stamped tone-on-tone with Mint Macaron Ink on the bottom layer.
  • The birds and nest image was stamped in VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Black Embossing Powder and the Heat Tool.  Don’t forget to swipe your cardstock with the Embossing Buddy so that little bits of black won’t adhere where they don’t belong.  Another tip to embossing:  keep a clean, unused small paint brush handy to flick off specks before you heat emboss.
  • The little flower is punched out with the flower punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack, and the center is a small White Perfect Accent colored with a black Sharpie.
  • With this gorgeous paper, I lined the Very Vanilla Envelope with coordinating Pretty Petals designer paper using the Envelope Liner Framelit and the Big Shot.  I cut my paper at 3″ x 6″ and used SNAIL Adhesive only on the top and the two “winged” sides, not on the bottom, so that it can slide easily into the envelope.

World of Dreams2

  • And here’s the front of the envelope.  I carried the greenery theme into the corner to dress up even the front.

World of Dreams4

  • Since the card base was in Basic Black Cardstock, I lined the inside of my card with Very Vanilla Cardstock and stamped the greenery motif again.  The sentiment is so perfect for my friend who is heading out with her family to start a new job in another state.  They’re really excited about going and the possibilities it holds for the family.  I’m going to miss her though!

Watercolor Wings and Bold Butterfly Framelits

Watercolor butterfly

I’m sure by now you’ve seen lots and lots of samples using the coordinating products Watercolor Wings stamp set and the Bold Butterfly Framelits by Stampin’ Up!  But really, the possibilities are endless!  And you save by purchasing both in a bundle!

  • I’m totally hooked on the new 2015-17 In Colors.  I just can’t get enough of them!  And in my opinion using Basic Black with them just makes them pop.  I tried using the Tip Top Taupe as the card base and butterfly, and it just wasn’t as pretty.  Check out another card using 2015-17 In Colors and Basic Black HERE.
  • I began by running a strip of Delightful Dijon cardstock through the Big Shot with the brand new Elegant Dots Embossing Folder.  Another great one to use would be Fluttering with the embossed butterflies.
  • Rounding the corners on the Mint Macaron cardstock softens the look and coordinates better with the Watermelon Wonder cardstock circle which was cut with the 2-1/2″ Circle Punch.  The leaf that’s stamped tone on tone comes from World of Dreams stamp set.
  • Now for the fun part – creating our butterfly!  I ran Basic Black cardstock through the Big Shot with the Bold Butterfly Framelit.  Then I used the framelit to trace a butterfly on the Watermelon Wonder Designer Paper.  I cut it out by hand with my Paper Snips and glued on the Basic Black piece over the top with a 2-Way Glue Pen.  After gluing, you can go back and trim more paper off if necessary.  I stamped the antennae on the circle then adhered the butterfly to the circle with one Dimensional in the center.

Bold Butterflies Framelits

  • This beautiful sentiment is contained in the Watercolor Wings stamp set.  I love what it says and I love the font!  I stamped in Black Memento Ink – my black ink of choice for most projects.
  • Now for some accessorizing!  The sweet resin flower is from the new In Color Blossom Accents – 4 each of all 5 colors in a package!
  • The four black shiny circle accents are White Perfect Accents colored with a Sharpie.  You can color them any color you choose, and they’re self adhesive.

Painted Petals from Leadership Conference

Painted Petals

Today began the Stampin’ Up! Leadership Conference in Orlando.  I wasn’t able to attend this year, but I did watch some of the conference via live streaming.  I loved the projects that our Co-Founder and CEO Shelli Gardner presented.  The good thing about not going is that I could go right to my design table and try some of her ideas.  Sad to say, this card didn’t turn out nearly as gorgeous as Shelli’s – I’ve decided I’m just not a shabby chic kinda gal – but I still thought it showed off the Painted Petals stamp set in the Occasions Catalog nicely.

  • Colors are Blackberry Bliss, Soft Sky and Pear Pizzazz.
  • For the splatters, I used Gorgeous Grunge for the Blackberry and Sky splatters.  For the Pear Pizzazz, I took a wet paint brush, dipped it in the ink and “flung” it onto the cardstock with little tap of the brush.
  • The sentiment is a great one – who wouldn’t want to receive this!  It’s stamped in Memento Black Ink, cut out with an Oval Framelit and popped up on Dimensionals.
  • Pearls are the only embellishment, keeping it simple and letting this pretty stamp set do its thing!

painted petals closeup

I want to try this same card in different color schemes and with different sentiments.  Once you have a great layout like this one, you can change it up all different ways.  I’m thinking Strawberry Slush, Mossy Meadow and Coastal Cabana next!

Four Feathers and Eye-Catching Ikat

Four Feathers and Ikat

I just love the addition of the Four Feathers stamp set and coordinating Feathers Framelits to the 2014 Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog.  I have lots of Native American art in my home, and so I looked at what I could pair this great stamp set with to achieve that effect.  Lo and behold – I found a set in my collection that I haven’t used a lot called Eye-Catching Ikat.  Since this stamp set is in photopolymer, I was able to line up my stamping to create my own designer paper by stamping in Crushed Curry, Tempting Turquoise and Cajun Craze.

    • I stamped two of the feathers on Very Vanilla cardstock.  For the third feather, I stamped on Tempting Turquoise cardstock with VersaMark and sprinkled on Silver Embossing Powder, then heat set with the Heat Tool.
    • Wasn’t sure where to add my sentiment, so I decided to cut out an extra feather and stamp a simple “hello” from A Dozen Thoughts stamp set on it.
    • I added additional “sterling silver” accents using a Silver Button and a strip of Silver Foil run through the Big Shot using the zig-zag framelit in the Finishing Touches Edgelits.

I tried adding some Candy Dots with Brad Bases, but I think it’s too much – thought I’d show you anyway.  What do you think?  Leave me a comment!

Fun with Stampin’ Up! Decorative Masks

Dots & Stripes decorative masks card collection

YOUR CHANCE TO WIN A FREE GIFT – READ ON!

Hubby was away all day today, and I needed a break from packing to move, so I decided to play with the new Dots & Stripes Decorative Masks by Stampin’ Up!  If you haven’t noticed them yet, they’re on page 205 in the 2014-15 Annual Catalog.  There are two sets – Hearts & Stars and the ones I chose to use, Dots & Stripes.

There are several ways to apply ink to the Masks.  For my cards today, I chose to fill several Stampin’ Spritzers with rubbing alcohol and Ink Refills.  It takes quite a few drops of reinker – just add more if your color isn’t as vibrant as you’d like.  Then simply use your spritzers to add color to your cardstock.

I took pictures of the steps along the way so that I could explain how I achieved the variegated colors.

First, I laid down a piece of Stampin’ Up! Grid Paper.  Next came a piece of 5-1/4″ x 4″ Whisper White Cardstock.  Then using my grid paper to line everything up, I laid on my Decorative Mask.  You’ll see I have my Stampin’ Spritzers already filled and ready.  I’ve used Daffodil Delight, Old Olive and Night of Navy on my first card then Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Melon Mambo on the other three.

Mask 1

I started by spritzing on Daffodil Delight over the first two rows of the Decorative Mask.  Give a firm push all the way down and keep the spritzer moving from left to right.

Mask 2

Next I spritzed on Old Olive, trying to get a bit on the second row of the Daffodil Delight and also covering a row or two of the remaining dots.

Mask 3

The last spritzing, I used the Night of Navy spritzer to spray a bit into the Olive and the final row of dots.

Decorative Mask dots and stripes 5

Pick it up carefully after you’ve done all your spritzing so the ink on the mask doesn’t run off onto your cardstock.

And here’s the finished product!  I loved the background so much that I simply added a sentiment and no embellishments.  The skinny black border helped the colors pop out.  “Hello There” sentiment is from the Hello There stamp set.

Decorative Mask dots and stripes blue

Next I tried Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Melon Mambo with a sentiment from Geometrical.

Decorative Mask dots and stripes 4

Then I got the idea to spritz at a diagonal!  Oh, this is so much fun and addicting!  Here I used a sentiment from Fabulous Four stamp set.

Decorative Mask dots and stripes 3

And finally, rather than washing off my mask, I set a piece of Whisper White cardstock on top of the mask to soak up the excess ink and got the reverse design.  I think this is actually my favorite!  Sentiment is from Lots of Thanks stamp set.

Decorative Mask dots and stripes 2

To clean off the mask, I just ran it under warm water and blotted it dry with an old towel.  I can’t wait to use all of the other masks now!  So fun, quick and easy – and WOW!

Leave me a comment and let me know which card you like best!  If there are at least 5 comments, I’ll randomly choose one to win a FREE Dots & Stripes Decorative Mask set!  Customers only, please – no demonstrators!  The winner will be chosen on Thursday, August 7th, and posted on my website, so check back to see if you’ve won!

Snapshot and Flashback

Snapshot and Flashback

I love going to the Stampin’ Up! Inspire Create Share event (formerly known as Convention) for so many reasons.  And one of the reasons is all of the loot I come home with!  Here’s a picture of me packing to come home and all that I had to figure out how to put in my suitcase!

Loot from Convention_edited-1

Isn’t that crazy?!  So many wonderful Stampin’ Up! products completely free!  And tucked in there somewhere is the single stamp called Snapshot – the cute camera that is great for both card making and scrapbooking.  I’ve paired it with Flashback Designer Series Paper, as well as the sentiment from Hip Notes stamp set.

Here’s another project I created using Flashback DSP – you’ll want to pick up some today (July 31st) before the DSP sale is over!

I used my Aqua Painter and Crushed Curry Stamp Pad to color in the camera.

Pool Party 1/4″ Cotton Ribbon and a Real Red Candy Dot are all the accessories you need for this quick and easy card.

Snapshot and Flashback closeup

You might have noticed how glossy and 3-D the center of the camera lens is.  That’s because I used a big ole blob of Crystal Effects in the center to give it dimension and shine.  It took a while to dry, but I think this easy addition packs a wow.

Just Because

Just Because

Here are some great products that are in the 2013-14 Annual Catalog but are also carrying into the 2014-15 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog.  You’re able to purchase all of these products now, but if you need to wait a little bit, you can also purchase most of them after June 2nd.  It’s a quick & easy card, with very few steps and a nice, clean look.

  • I love using a double layer of Whisper White cardstock to set off the look of an easy card.  Be sure to set the top layer apart by using lots of Dimensionals.  I don’t use Sahara Sand much for a neutral, but I think I’m going to start – it was the perfect color!   I cut the Sahara Sand cardstock rectangle using my Stampin’ Trimmer with the Rotary Addition and the Scallop Cutting Blade.  It creates a nice delicate edge to all four sides.
  • The flower is created with three punches – Blossom Punch for the largest, Pansy Punch for the Daffodil Delight layer and a 3/4″ Circle Punch for the center.  You’ll find the designer papers in the following packets – Tangerine Tango from the Brights Collection Paper Stack, Daffodil Delight from Quatrefancy Specialty papers (which is retiring June 1st) and the Pacific Point polka dot, also from the Brights Collection Paper Stack.
  • I use A Dozen Thoughts stamp set so much, and the “just because” sentiment is one of my favorites.  You can see this versatile set used in a get well card HERE.
  • Candy Dots have become my “go to” accessory – they’re easy to use, very affordable and travel well in an envelope.  These are all from the Brights Collection Candy Dots.

UPDATE:  I just realized that the Quantrefancy Designer Series Paper is 50% off now through June 4th while supplies last!  Item No. 130141 $12.95 now just $6.48!

For the Birds and Fresh Prints

for the birds wagon

My card today includes an older stamp set paired with a new designer paper.  I love combining things that Stampin' Up! hasn't shown together to create a different look.

  • I started out using Fresh Prints Designer Paper Stack for the paper and to pick up the color scheme – Coastal Cabana, Real Red, Crumb Cake, Whisper White, and a hint of Daffodiil Delight.
  • I love the For the Birds stamp set!  It's a great one especially if you're just starting out because there are so many images and lots of different sentiments.  There's even a stamp for Christmas – click here to see what I've done with it.  Here's what's contained in this great set:

for the birds

  • The very best paper to stamp and watercolor using Stampin' Up!'s stamp pads and Aqua Painter is our Watercolor Paper.  It's so easy to get a nice watercolored image this way!  My second choice in paper for watercoloring is Stampin' Up! Naturals White (Item No. 102316) or Naturals Ivory (Item No. 101849).  The Whisper White and Very Vanilla cardstock are designed to stamp images beautifully, but because of their tight surface, they don't take the water as well.
  • Circles are punched using the 2-1/2" Circle Punch, or you could also use the Circles Framelits.
  • I added some Real Red Stitched Ribbon, a Real Red cardstock flower using the Itty Bitty Punch Pack and added a Daffodil Delight Candy Dot to the center to pull in the yellow from the watercolored image.
