Fall in Love with Washi Tape

WashiTapeEnjoy

I have to admit it – I was a bit slow to warm to Stampin’ Up!’s Washi Tape.  I just wasn’t sure how to use it at first.  Then I started experimenting, and now I’ve become a huge fan!  I also love looking through catalogs for inspiration.  And I love Vera Bradley!  I love the color interplay in her patterns.  And I just received the catalog for this year’s new designs.  Here’s one of my favorites!

VeraBradlyBag

Yes, there’s inspiration for card making all around us!  While my card isn’t totally the same as the Vera Bradley bag, it was a wonderful start to a new card design.

  • In order to have the right colors of Washi Tape to repilcate the colors in the bag, I chose Playful Palette and Affectionately Yours Designer Washi Tapes.  My idea was to replicate the center square of the bag.
  • I cut a piece of Whisper White Cardstock that measured 3-3/4″ x 5″ as the base to build my Washi Tape piece.
  • I really didn’t have a plan – and you don’t have to either!  I just started putting strips of the Washi Tape in different sections of the Whisper White Cardstock – a few rows and then switch directions.  Keep those Paper Snips handy for clean, straight edges!
  • Once I finished the background, then I needed a sentiment.  And one of this year’s best sentiment stamp sets is Layering Love.  One of the heart framelits in the Sweet & Sassy Framelit collection was perfect to cut it out of the Mint Macaron Cardstock.
  • Wonder why Stampin’ Up! discontinued our black embossing powder?  Well, so did I!  Until I realized that with our new Archival Black Stamp Pad and Clear Embossing Powder, I can still have that embossed look.  Just stamp with the Archival Black Ink, pour on the Clear Embossing Powder and heat set with the Heat Tool.  The Embossing Buddy before hand ensures that little bits of embossing powder won’t cling to the cardstock.
  • What could be more fun than the new Enamel Shapes – in all sorts of colors!  I used a Melon Mambo Enamel Heart from the Brights Assortment to cover up the heart from the stamp.
  • Add Dimensionals to the back of your heart, adhere it to this beautiful background, and you’re done!

Friends & Flowers Fish

Friends Flowers fish 1

How fun is this card!  I set out to build a card that looked like a goldfish bowl showing of this cute and clever stamp set from Stampin’ Up! called Friends & Flowers.  It takes a little figuring out what all the pieces in the set are for, but once you see the possibilities, you’ll just have to have this adorable set!  Here’s a beautiful flower card I created with this same stamp set – and they don’t look a bit the same.  I even used the same designer paper – Pretty Petals!  Click HERE to view it.

Friends & Flowers stamp set AND Pretty Petals Designer Paper are retiring AND I Think You’re Great stamp set is retiring, too – with 25% off the stamp set while supplies last.  Grab them while you can!

  • I began my card searching through my designer papers to see what could look like a watery background.  I found it in the unlikely pack Pretty Petals which you’d think would be all about flowers!  But I love that Stampin’ Up! designs the paper usually with a bolder print on one side and a more muted print on the other so you have optimal versatility.
  • I scalloped the top of the designer paper with a Circle Punch and adhered it directly to my Whisper White cardstock background.
  • Next I stamped the pieces I needed for the two fish using Whisper White Cardstock and Pumpkin Pie Ink.   Most of the pieces in the Friends & Flowers stamp set punch out with the coordinating Festive Flower Builder Punch!  I assembled them and lightly traced the fins and tails with the Gold Wink of Stella Glitter Pen.  After all, they are goldfish!
  • I searched through my sentiments to find the perfect one for this card and came upon the fun speech bubble in I Think You’re Great stamp set.  It’s stamped on Whisper White Cardstock with VersaMark Ink then heat embossed with Gold Embossing Powder and the Heat Tool.  Paper Snips cut it out quickly.
  • Fish just need bubbles, right?!  Mine were created using all three sizes of White Perfect Accents.  They’re self-adhesive so went on with no fuss!
  • The fish got Pacific Point Candy Dots in the Brights Candy Dot Pack for eyes.  Candy Dots are all retiring – oh, my!!!  Be sure to add them to your order!
  • I rounded the bottom two corners to be more “bowl like” using the Corner Rounder Punch.
  • I wanted to create the pebbles on the bottom of a fish bowl, and since I had a little shimmer going on, I opted for Gold Foil punched out using the 1/2″ Circle Punch.  A few of the ones on top are adhered with Dimensionals to bring them to life.
  • Lining the envelope to coordinate with the card has become one of my favorite “accessorizing” techniques.  Use the Envelope Liner Framelits with the Big Shot and adhere inside the Whisper White Envelope flap.  And you’re not gonna believe this but the Envelope Liner Framelits are retiring!!!

Pretty Petals and a great layout

Watercolor wings

I love having a super sketch to start out my card designs!  And the folks at Mojo Monday have a great new sketch every week.  Here was the sketch for last week:

Mojo407sketch

  • See how quick and easy your cards come together with a wonderfully balanced layout?  I’ll tell you a bit about my card in case you want to duplicate it.
  • Another fabulous tool to quick and easy cards are the designer papers from Stampin’ Up!  This card features Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper Stack, which comes in a 6″x6″ packet – 48 sheets, 4 each of 12 double-sided designs.  The possibilities are endless!  I chose the butterflies and then simply built my color scheme around that paper.  And the little butterfly is punched out of another pattern using the Bitty Butterfly Punch.  Here are some of the other terrific patterns:

Pretty Petals DSP

  • And here’s a link to view another card I made using Pretty Petals – click HERE to view.
  • The 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon has been a terrific addition to our new Annual Catalog.  Here I’ve used Pacific Point to coordinate.
  • The heartfelt sentiment comes from Watercolor Wings stamp set.  It’s my most favorite new stamp!  Who wouldn’t like to receive a card acknowledging how precious life’s moments are with them!
  • All three circles come from Stampin’ Up! Punches – 1″, 1-3/4″ and 2″.  The Pacific Point and Old Olive cardstock circles are run through the Big Shot with the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder for some added texture.
  • My accessories continue with a small Pearl and Rhinestone, as well as some Gold Thread behind the sentiment.

World of Dreams and Pretty Petals

World of Dreams1

I love the combination of World of Dreams stamp set and Pretty Petals designer paper from Stampin’ Up! – the images look so nice with the paper prints! This is a very special card I designed to give to a friend who is moving away.  There’s a going away party for her this week, and I wanted to be sure to be ready with something particularly nice.  Because of that, I pulled out all the stops, decorating the envelope front and back as well as the inside of the card.

  • The color scheme in the Pretty Petals paper is Mint Macaron, Calypso Coral, Old Olive, Basic Black and Very Vanilla.  It’s easy to find what your layering colors should be from the designer paper colors!
  • I stamped tone-on-tone with Mint Macaron Ink on the bottom layer.
  • The birds and nest image was stamped in VersaMark Ink and heat embossed with Black Embossing Powder and the Heat Tool.  Don’t forget to swipe your cardstock with the Embossing Buddy so that little bits of black won’t adhere where they don’t belong.  Another tip to embossing:  keep a clean, unused small paint brush handy to flick off specks before you heat emboss.
  • The little flower is punched out with the flower punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack, and the center is a small White Perfect Accent colored with a black Sharpie.
  • With this gorgeous paper, I lined the Very Vanilla Envelope with coordinating Pretty Petals designer paper using the Envelope Liner Framelit and the Big Shot.  I cut my paper at 3″ x 6″ and used SNAIL Adhesive only on the top and the two “winged” sides, not on the bottom, so that it can slide easily into the envelope.

World of Dreams2

  • And here’s the front of the envelope.  I carried the greenery theme into the corner to dress up even the front.

World of Dreams4

  • Since the card base was in Basic Black Cardstock, I lined the inside of my card with Very Vanilla Cardstock and stamped the greenery motif again.  The sentiment is so perfect for my friend who is heading out with her family to start a new job in another state.  They’re really excited about going and the possibilities it holds for the family.  I’m going to miss her though!

Watercolor Wings and Bold Butterfly Framelits

Watercolor butterfly

I’m sure by now you’ve seen lots and lots of samples using the coordinating products Watercolor Wings stamp set and the Bold Butterfly Framelits by Stampin’ Up!  But really, the possibilities are endless!  And you save by purchasing both in a bundle!

  • I’m totally hooked on the new 2015-17 In Colors.  I just can’t get enough of them!  And in my opinion using Basic Black with them just makes them pop.  I tried using the Tip Top Taupe as the card base and butterfly, and it just wasn’t as pretty.  Check out another card using 2015-17 In Colors and Basic Black HERE.
  • I began by running a strip of Delightful Dijon cardstock through the Big Shot with the brand new Elegant Dots Embossing Folder.  Another great one to use would be Fluttering with the embossed butterflies.
  • Rounding the corners on the Mint Macaron cardstock softens the look and coordinates better with the Watermelon Wonder cardstock circle which was cut with the 2-1/2″ Circle Punch.  The leaf that’s stamped tone on tone comes from World of Dreams stamp set.
  • Now for the fun part – creating our butterfly!  I ran Basic Black cardstock through the Big Shot with the Bold Butterfly Framelit.  Then I used the framelit to trace a butterfly on the Watermelon Wonder Designer Paper.  I cut it out by hand with my Paper Snips and glued on the Basic Black piece over the top with a 2-Way Glue Pen.  After gluing, you can go back and trim more paper off if necessary.  I stamped the antennae on the circle then adhered the butterfly to the circle with one Dimensional in the center.

Bold Butterflies Framelits

  • This beautiful sentiment is contained in the Watercolor Wings stamp set.  I love what it says and I love the font!  I stamped in Black Memento Ink – my black ink of choice for most projects.
  • Now for some accessorizing!  The sweet resin flower is from the new In Color Blossom Accents – 4 each of all 5 colors in a package!
  • The four black shiny circle accents are White Perfect Accents colored with a Sharpie.  You can color them any color you choose, and they’re self adhesive.

I Think You’re Great with Cherries

I think youre great

The Stampin’ Up! Cherry on Top Designer Series Paper Stack takes front and center on this card with this adorable cherry motif, as well as the Cucumber Crush grid banner.  And here’s the second card I’ve made using the I Think You’re Great stamp set – see my first one HERE.  It’s also the second time to pull out the Tin of Cards stamp set and use the fantabulous squiggle doodle stamp!  This may be the single greatest stamp ever produced!  Do you think I’m a bit excited about this little beauty?

  • I’m sure you’ve seen lots of card samples floating around using the Cherry on Top designer paper.  I’m here to tell you that you can get very different looks with this paper – not just the cute cupcake or balloon theme that are so easy to choose first.  And you can vary the color scheme too.  Here I’ve chosen to use just Cucumber Crush and Watermelon Wonder with some Basic Black for a bold look.
  • I’ve used the Circles Framelits and Big Shot to create my two circles for this card – one is stamped and the other just in Basic Black Cardstock to create a border.
  • The White Perfect Accents are just that – perfect little additions to any card.  Here I used one of all three sizes – and they’re self-adhesive.
  • I’ve been lining almost all of my envelopes lately; with the gorgeous paper Stampin’ Up! has given us in this new catalog, it’s hard to resist not using it everywhere!  The Envelope Liner Framelits and Big Shot make it super easy to add this beautiful coordinating touch – and you only need a piece that’s 3″x6″.

Way to Go and I Think You’re Great

Way to Go

I’m just smitten with the I Think You’re Great stamp set by Stampin’ Up!, new to the 2015-16 Annual Catalog.  You’ll find lots and lots of uses for this set.  I’ll show you one today, and then I have an additional posting coming up using another stamp in the set.

  • My color scheme is from the Brights Collection with a pop of Basic Black and sparkle – Melon Mambo, Pacific Point and Old Olive.
  • “Way to Go” is stamped in Pacific Point Ink and is cut out with my Paper Snips then popped up on Dimensionals.  I love how it’s sort of a reverse stamp – the background is colored in and the letters are left white.
  • The star is cut out with the Big Shot and Silver Glimmer Paper.  Love this touch!  AND check out the Weekly Deals – you can grab yourself some Silver Glimmer Paper on sale this week!
  • A Candy Dot Brad Base with a Pacific Point Candy Dot is a nice accent to the Basic Black Cardstock.
  • And another stamp set that is going to be a “must have” for this catalog is the Tin of Cards stamp set.  Of course, it coordinates with the Tin of Cards kit, but beyond that, you’re going to want these stamps for all of your cards.  The two row of “+’s” are created with a stamp in this set.  I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to make sure they were lined up perfectly, even though I was working with a photopolymer stamp set.  I’m just no good at “eyeballing”!  And please remember to use Memento Black Ink with your photopolymer stamps!

Stampin’ Up! Inspire Create Share 2014

Choose Happiness swap

This past week has been a whirlwind, what with moving and attending the Stampin’ Up! Inspire Create Share (formerly known as Convention)!  As always, this Stampin’ Up! event was a blast!  At Awards Night, it was announced that I had earned a place in the Top 100 Stampin’ Up! demonstrators in the US!  Needless to say, I was blown away!  Thank you to my wonderful customers and team of From the Heart Stampers for making it possible!

Here’s the swap I took with me.  I was only able to get 75 of them made, but I always have so much fun swapping that I just couldn’t go empty handed.  I’ll be posting some of my favorites of the swaps I received soon!

  • I took the color scheme for this card from the Flashback Designer Series Paper, even though I didn’t use any.  Colors are Basic Black, Crushed Curry, Pool Party, Smoky Slate and Very VanillaHere’s a card set I made using several different prints from Flashback.
  • Choose Happiness stamp set is a fun collage-type set full of possibilities!  It also goes well with Gorgeous Grunge stamp set in the background.
  • Real Red cardstock creates the little accent to the left, and there is Pool Party 1/4″ Cotton Ribbon on top.
  • Pearls decorate the center of the flower.  I kept the Dimensionals to just the Crushed Curry cardstock circle sentiment since I was transporting them from New York to Salt Lake City.

Traveler and Tuesday Tidbits

Traveler

Today I’m excited to show you the new All Abloom Designer Series Paper Stack from Stampin’ Up!  This is such a versatile paper – lots of color and pattern choices, and it comes in a 4-1/2″ x 6-1/2″ paper stack just right for card makers.

And don’t forget to read all the way through my post to get all the latest news, specials and deadlines!

  • You know me – I love using our pretty designer paper and making it easy to come up with a color scheme!  All Abloom has all of the following colors:  Blushing Bride, Daffodil Delight, Island Indigo, Lost Lagoon, Mossy Meadow, Pistachio Pudding and Strawberry Slush – whew!
  • You’ll find this vintage suitcase as part of the Traveler stamp set, brand new to the 2014-15 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog.  I’ve stamped it in Mossy Meadow, one of the new 2014-16 In Colors, and cut it out using the Big Shot and Circle Framelits.
  • This beautiful sentiment is from the stamp set called Trust God.  I thought this card would be perfect for someone going out on a mission trip or heading off to college or even a change of jobs.
  • To scrunch up the Mossy Meadow Ribbon, simply begin by using a line of our new Fast Fuse Adhesive where you want the ribbon to be.  Hand pleat it and stick it into the adhesive on the card.  The new Fast Fuse will keep it in place!  It’s stronger than SNAIL Adhesive but a little less strong than Sticky Strip and a little easier to use since it rolls out like SNAIL.
  • I punched out a piece of Pistachio Pudding cardstock with my Small Oval Punch, snipped it off and added a Pink Pirouette Button from the Subtles Button Pack to the bottom left corner.  A piece of Linen Thread makes a nice accent through the button.

Something to Say and I Like You

Something to Say

I have a quick & Easy card for you today – something you can create in just a few minutes, but I think it packs a punch!  Unfortunately, there are many times these encouraging words could be a comfort to those around you – sympathy, illness, any of life’s challenges.

  • I’ve combined three stamp sets – Something to Say for the beautiful sentiment, I Like You (a hostess-exclusive stamp set) and Party Pennants, a stamp fro the July 2013 Paper Pumpkin kit for the Old Olive background behind the sentiment.
  • I know you’re waiting patiently (or not!) for the release of the Stampin’ Up! Blendabilities Markers!  Let me tell you, they’re worth the wait!  There’s never been an easier way to color in images!  I used Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive, Coastal Cabana and Daffodil Delight to color in my pretty flower image.  I created another card using the same stamp and color scheme HERE.  Word on the street is that they should be available later in June or possibly into July, so sit tight – they’re coming!
