Fun with Stampin’ Up! Decorative Masks

Dots & Stripes decorative masks card collection

Hubby was away all day today, and I needed a break from packing to move, so I decided to play with the new Dots & Stripes Decorative Masks by Stampin’ Up!  If you haven’t noticed them yet, they’re on page 205 in the 2014-15 Annual Catalog.  There are two sets – Hearts & Stars and the ones I chose to use, Dots & Stripes.

There are several ways to apply ink to the Masks.  For my cards today, I chose to fill several Stampin’ Spritzers with rubbing alcohol and Ink Refills.  It takes quite a few drops of reinker – just add more if your color isn’t as vibrant as you’d like.  Then simply use your spritzers to add color to your cardstock.

I took pictures of the steps along the way so that I could explain how I achieved the variegated colors.

First, I laid down a piece of Stampin’ Up! Grid Paper.  Next came a piece of 5-1/4″ x 4″ Whisper White Cardstock.  Then using my grid paper to line everything up, I laid on my Decorative Mask.  You’ll see I have my Stampin’ Spritzers already filled and ready.  I’ve used Daffodil Delight, Old Olive and Night of Navy on my first card then Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Melon Mambo on the other three.

Mask 1

I started by spritzing on Daffodil Delight over the first two rows of the Decorative Mask.  Give a firm push all the way down and keep the spritzer moving from left to right.

Mask 2

Next I spritzed on Old Olive, trying to get a bit on the second row of the Daffodil Delight and also covering a row or two of the remaining dots.

Mask 3

The last spritzing, I used the Night of Navy spritzer to spray a bit into the Olive and the final row of dots.

Decorative Mask dots and stripes 5

Pick it up carefully after you’ve done all your spritzing so the ink on the mask doesn’t run off onto your cardstock.

And here’s the finished product!  I loved the background so much that I simply added a sentiment and no embellishments.  The skinny black border helped the colors pop out.  “Hello There” sentiment is from the Hello There stamp set.

Decorative Mask dots and stripes blue

Next I tried Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Melon Mambo with a sentiment from Geometrical.

Decorative Mask dots and stripes 4

Then I got the idea to spritz at a diagonal!  Oh, this is so much fun and addicting!  Here I used a sentiment from Fabulous Four stamp set.

Decorative Mask dots and stripes 3

And finally, rather than washing off my mask, I set a piece of Whisper White cardstock on top of the mask to soak up the excess ink and got the reverse design.  I think this is actually my favorite!  Sentiment is from Lots of Thanks stamp set.

Decorative Mask dots and stripes 2

To clean off the mask, I just ran it under warm water and blotted it dry with an old towel.  I can’t wait to use all of the other masks now!  So fun, quick and easy – and WOW!

Leave me a comment and let me know which card you like best!  If there are at least 5 comments, I’ll randomly choose one to win a FREE Dots & Stripes Decorative Mask set!  Customers only, please – no demonstrators!  The winner will be chosen on Thursday, August 7th, and posted on my website, so check back to see if you’ve won!

All that glitters IS gold

Fabulous Four and Star Framelit with washi tape

I just love all of the gold that Stampin’ Up! has added over this past year!  And like all Stampin’ Up! products, there’s also the beautiful coordination factor that’s a big wow!  I also created another card using our gold products – you can find it here.

I began this card with the idea of using Watercolor Wonder Washi Tape and the Stars Framelits and Big Shot to create a focal point image.  I used one of the Stars Framelits and traced around it on Very Vanilla Cardstock.  Then I filled in the space with the Washi Tape, set the Star Framelit back over the pen lines and ran it through the Big Shot to cut it out.  Here’s a look at what I’m describing:

Star with washi tape

Next I wanted to create a frame around the star using the Gold Foil Sheets.  I used two of the Stars Framelits – the same one with which I cut out the Washi Tape star and also the size below it.  I placed the smaller one inside the larger one, laid them on the Gold Foil Sheet and ran it through the Big Shot.  Here’s a photo of the set up:

Star Framelit with Big Shot

And here’s the card closeup:

Fabulous Four with washi tape white

I added Gold Baker’s Twine and one of the sentiment from Fabulous Four stamp set stamped with an Encore Gold  stamp pad.  I really wanted the star to stick out off of the card, but that posed a problem for putting it in an envelope.  But no fear – with the Envelope Punch Board, you’re able to create any size envelope you choose!  So I made my envelope 6″ x 4-3/4″ and it slipped right in.

But why stop there?  If I’m creating a custom envelope, I might as well dress it up a bit, right?  So I made an additional envelope base then cut across the bottom and sides to create a liner.

measuring envelope for liner

Then I placed my rows of Washi Tape all along the part of the envelope that would fit down inside the outer envelope.  Once on, I trimmed down the Washi Tape and also trimmed the liner so it would slide down inside the envelope base.

I think this special card will be for my husband’s uncle who is turning 80 next weekend.  He and his wife are also celebrating 60 years of marriage!  Gold will be perfect!

Geometric Triangles

Geometric Triangles

I’m having fun getting to know the Stampin’ Up! 2014-16 In Colors!  They’re beautifully rich and wonderful to use!  If you missed it, I’ve posted another card using the In Colors HERE.

  • I started out my card idea for today because I’ve just received my new Tiny Triangles Embossing Folder and I really wanted to show it to you.  Just love this one – it’s a must in your collection!
  • While I was at it, I realized that triangles are in!  I pulled out my Triangle Punch and punched out a solid color triangle from 4 of the In Color cardstocks.
  • And that led me to try cutting a Whisper White cardstock triangle for the sentiment from Geometrical stamp set stamped in Mossy Meadow ink.  Don’t think I’ve ever stamped a sentiment on a triangle before, but I thought it was perfect for this card.
  • I added a Blackberry Bliss cardstock arrow cut from one of the small shapes contained in the Label Card Thinlits Dies assortment and some Gold Sequins for a little accent.
  • You’re going to love the lush, smooth In Color Satin Stitched Ribbon this year – it’s just yummy and ties beautifully!  Here is Tangelo Twist.

So now that I’ve shown off the In Colors today, don’t you just want them all?!  This would be a wonderful time to join my In Color Club and get all of the great 2014-16 In Color products, either all at once or a little each month.  Read more about my 2014-16 In Color Club HERE then let me know you want in!

Retro Fresh Journaling Tags for Cards

Retro Fresh Journaling Tags for cards

Here’s a simply, no-stamping card made with some of the products in the Retro Fresh collection – the Retro Fresh This and That Washi Tape and the Journaling Tags.  I did add a strip of Crumb Cake Washi Tape from the Epic Day trio because I needed 4 different tapes.

If you were like me and didn’t give these little cards much attention, now’s the time!  They are in the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog and are just $4.95 for 1 each of 32 designs in 3 different sizes.  And while I was planning this card, I realized (you’ll say duh, Kriss!) that these Journaling Tags are also perfect for the new Project Life line of products that Stampin’ Up! is now carrying.  The 3″x4″ cards will fit perfectly into the Project Life page protector pockets.  You’ll take the 3″x3″ Retro Fresh cards and back them with cardstock measuring 4″x4″ and they’re ready to slip in, too!

Here’s what a few of them look like.  Remember, you get 32 designs!
retro fresh tags pic

This card went together in a snap.

  • I used a So Saffron cardstock base and began my design on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock.
  • Simply lay on the Washi Tape in whatever pattern suits you then fold the edges around the corners to the back of the cardstock.
  • I trimmed down the “high 5” card ever so slightly so that more of the Washi Tape was visible.
  • I added a So Saffron Candy Dot from the Subtles Candy Dots packet to the top of the arrow then mounted the “high 5” card onto the front with Dimensionals.
  • I repeated using the Dimensionals to place the card front on the card base so there was a little more raised up on my card.

In This Together and $50 Starter Kit Special

In This Together

I used the new Stampin’ Up! Blendabilities, coupled with an adorable brand new stamp set and pretty designer paper, to create this card.  I’m still getting used to my Blendabilities, and I’m sure I’ll get better, but I wanted to share for a couple of reasons.  First, they are SO much fun!  I’ve always loved coloring, and these markers are really a treat!  You can see another card I made with Blendabilities HERE.

But there’s a second reason I’m showing you this card today.  Stampin’ Up! Blendabilities are currently only available to demonstrators and will not be released to customers until later this summer (current estimation: late June or early July).  So if you’re not a demonstrator right now, maybe you should be!  And to make it easier, for a limited time only, you can join for just $50 — AND you can choose Stampin’ Blendabilities IN your Starter Kit!

Why not take your love of Stampin’ Up! products to the next level!  Join as a hobby demonstrator, a business builder or somewhere in between – all levels of activity are welcome!  And when you join Stampin’ Up! during this limited-time offer, you’ll receive:

  • $55 worth of products of YOUR choice
  • A 30% discount on your first order (over $150 in the first 45 days)
  • A 20% discount on all your orders
  • A Free paper-pumpkin kit will also be included in the starter kit.

Finally, let me take a few moments to tell you more about this card.

  • I’ve begun this card by choosing the Lullaby Designer Series Paper.  This paper is definitely not just for babies like you might first think.  There are 12 beautiful prints that can be used for babies, of course, but also for all your paper-crafting needs.  I’ve cut four strips measuring 4″x3/4″ and arranged them on a base of Pistachio Pudding cardstock.
  • Now for some stamping!  This cute image (although somewhat anorexic in my opinion!) is from In This Together stamp set, a fun one for coloring and is perfect for showcasing the Blendabilities markers!  Be sure to stamp with Memento Ink.   I’m still getting used to the shading with these fantastic markers, but as you can see, even the novice can be successful.  I’ve used the Coastal Cabana Blendabilities Trio for shading the dress, and the Skin Tone Assortment of Blendabilities colored in the skin and hair.
  • Both the card base and the flower accent are Hello Honey cardstock – the flower is punched out with our tried and true Boho Blossoms Punch, still a favorite!  A Rhinestone completes the center.

Retro Fresh Washi and Starburst Bundle

Happy Day washi tape
Today is a quick and easy card, and Stampin' Up! makes it so easy with coordinating products!

  • Use the Starburst Sayings bundle – stamp set and framelits – to create great layered main images.  I changed it up a bit by using Circle Framelits to cut out the Tangerine Tango layer.
  • Gorgeous Grunge stamp set gives the splattered look – mine gets constant use!
  • The pretty colored strips are Retro Fresh Washi Tape and go on in a snap.
  • A Metal Button and Whisper White Baker's Twine complete the simple look.

Double layering the white card base and the top of the card gives a lot of appeal.  I've raised the front of the card up with lots and lots of Dimensionals.

Vivid Vases

You're going to love Vivid Vases, a brand new single stamp featured in our 2014 Occasions Catalog!  And there are several other brand new products featured in this card, too!

  • I'm loving the soft colors of Watercolor Wonder Designer Paper; I used the Island Indigo zig-zag paper here.
  • Make way for one of your soon-to-be favorite embossing folders – the Scallops Folder!
  • I used two pretty fibers on this card – the Island Indigo Baker's Twine and the Calypso Coral 3/4" Chevron Ribbon, which is held in place with  a Hardware Clip.  Don't like the image on the clip?  (This one was the "&" symbol.)  Then just put that to the back.  You still get the cute metal clip on the front and a place to tie your ribbon.
  • I added a strip of Garden Green cardstock run through the Big Shot with the Tasteful Trim Bigz XL Die to coordinate with the Garden Green leaves and stems in the flowers.

vases main image

These sweet little flower vases are the perfect stamp to try your hand at watercoloring.  Remember to stamp in Black StazOn Ink, then use your Aqua Painter and stamp pads to do the rest.  I used Pool Party ink for the "watery" look in the vases.  To get the shading, just go over the entire vase lightly with Pool Party, let dry, then apply more ink in the shaded areas.  I like using Naturals White Cardstock because it absorbs the water much better than our Whisper White and Very Vanilla cardstocks.  Of course, you can also use Watercolor Paper for optimal results.

  • Oval Framelits cut out the main image as well as the Strawberry Slush cardstock border.
  • Grab your Occasions Paper-Piercing Pack to paper pierce neatly around the edge.
  • I've punched out Basic Black cardstock with the 1/2" Circle Punch, adhered it to the oval and used my Paper-Piercing Tool to make a hole for the Silver Glimmer Brad.

Welcoming new team members

I was so thrilled to have 20 women join my From the Heart Stampers group in September!  It was truly cause for celebration!  And what better way to celebrate with everyone than to send hand-made cards.  Each member who signed up a new person to the team received the congratulations card below.

And each new team member received the card below welcoming them to the team.

  • I wanted to use up some scraps I had left over from my Brights Collection Designer Paper Stack.  Punching out the squares with the 1" Square Punch made it a breeze.

  • The Large Rhinestones are the perfect touch for centers of the flowers.
  • The Basic Black strips are die cut with my most favorite die – the Tasteful Trim Die.  While this die is a little "pricey" it's something I use all the time, both for cards and scrapbook pages.
