Build a Birthday

build a birthday

The star of our card today is the new Build a Birthday photopolymer stamp set from the 2015-16 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog – just released this month!  You’re going to love all of the possibilities with this terrific set, and we card makers make a lot of birthday cards!

  • You’ve probably seen lots of fun ideas coordinating the Build a Birthday stamp set with the Cherry on Top Designer Paper and Washi Tape.  While I absolutely love this pairing, I wanted to show you some different colors with my card.  I actually still chose colors from one of our beautiful new designer papers called Schoolhouse, using Daffodil Delight, Pool Party and Tangerine Tango.  But what makes this card really special is the addition of all of the silver elements.
  • I’ve used the little flower in the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack to add a row of flowers to the top of the cake, punching out Silver Foil Paper.  A sweet little Silver Ribbon bow also accents the cake.  “Birthday wishes” is heat embossed using Silver Embossing Powder.  There’s a frame around the main image using Silver Foil Paper.  AND the envelope is lined using Fancy Foil Vellum run through the Big Shot with the Envelope Liner Framelit.  That’s a lot of silver!  This card would also be perfect for a wedding shower, an anniversary or a retirement.

  • Don’t forget your Glue Dots.  They’re invaluable for holding on the flowers as well as the bow.
  • The final accent are three Tangerine Tango Candy Dots from the Brights Candy Dots packet accenting the flowers.

Happy June Birthdays with Layered Letters Alphabet

Happy Birthday Wishes

Happy June!  I’m in the process of making a big stack of these birthday cards to send out to my customers and team members whose birthdays are happening this month.  I’m sharing it here for three reasons:

  1. Learn how to receive your birthday card – with enclosed 20% off coupon – on your birthday month with my Birthday Club.  Click HERE to read all about it and to sign up.
  2. After seeing this pretty card, I just know you’ll want to sign up for my new 2015-17 In Color Club – an easy, affordable way to get all of the new In Color products.  Click HERE to read about the In Color Club and to join now.
  3. The black and white designer paper is part of a brand new 12″ x 12″ paper pack called Everyday Chic.  Grab yourself a Designer Series Paper Share that I’m offering and receive it, as well as a total of  111 6″x6″ sheets of all of the new designer papers for this year!  Click HERE for all the details about my Catalog Shares.

And now on to the card details.

This card features almost all brand new product from the 2015 Annual Catalog that is being released tomorrow – June 2nd!

  • I began the idea for making this card by realizing that “happy” has 5 letters and there are 5 new In Colors. – Cucumber Crush, Delightful Dijon, Mint Macaron, Tip Top Taupe and Watermelon Wonder.  What could be more perfect!
  • And the best new alphabet set is Layered Letters Alphabet.  The stamp that creates the 5 colors behind the word is also included in this set.  I’ve owned alphabet stamps in the past, and this one has already gotten more use than any of the ones before.  And it comes in photopolymer so it’s really easy to line up everything.  Be sure to use Black Memento Ink with your photopolymer stamps.  It’s easy to remove without a lot of staining.
  • The “birthday wishes” sentiment comes from another new stamp set called Build a Birthday.  You’ll definitely be seeing this stamp set more than just the sentiment used.  It’s a great cake-building stamp set, also in photopolymer so that you can line up all the different layers of the cake.
  • Everyday Chic has all black and white patterns to it and is totally usable for all your projects.  I was fortunate enough to receive this package of paper on the Incentive Trip to Hawaii; it isn’t available to demonstrators for pre-order, so there is no code generated for it at the bottom.  Just know that on June 2nd, you can order Item No. 138445 for $11.

Butterfly Basics Collage and FINAL Day for May Card Kits

I think my favorite stamp set in the 2015 Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog would have to be Butterfly Basics with the coordinating Butterflies Thinlits Dies.  I love all of the collage-type stamps that you can work with in this versatile stamp set.  I’ve used 5 of the 11 stamps in this card, and you could make a totally different looking card using the other 6 stamps.  And good news – it’s available in all three stamp types – wood, clear mount or photopolymer – so that you can choose just the one you want.

  • Of course, I had to add a few splatters from Gorgeous Grunge stamp set!  If you don’t have this stamp set yet, I’m not sure how you’re able to make cards!
  • My color scheme is Blackberry Bliss, Pear Pizzazz, Calypso Coral and Very Vanilla, with a touch of Sahara Sand.
  • The Sahara Sand 7/8″ Lace Trim is a must for your vintage cards!  It also works perfectly with wedding.  Just apply a line of Fast Fuse Adhesive where you want your lace to be and stick the lace into the adhesive, gathering it along the way.
  • A pretty row of Pearls accents the butterfly’s body.
  • There are several things I’ve used on my card that will soon retire – Window Framelits, Basic Hodgepodge Clips and Blackberry Bliss Ribbon.
  • I love the coordination of the Butterflies Thinlits with the stamped image from the Butterfly Basics stamp set.  But there are also two very intricate butterflies in two different sizes that make the Thinlits set a must!

  • Since the Blackberry Bliss cardstock is so dark, I lined the inside with Very Vanilla cardstock that was stamped on the corner for a bit of fun coordination.

You can’t go wrong with this beautiful stamp set and thinlit combination!

FINAL Sale-A-Bration card sample and chance for free gifts

Big Day Butterfly

This is it!  Today (Tuesday, March 31st) is the last day to take advantage of the Stampin’ Up! free Sale-A-Bration gifts!  It’s been so much fun to receive free gifts with qualifying orders over the past 3 months!  Why not take one last chance to choose an additional free gift or two while you can!  And you’re going to very much want the three Sale-A-Bration free gifts used to create today’s card.

  • My idea for this card came from the gorgeous Sheer Perfection Designer Vellum Stack.  I particularly love the butterfly print.  There are lots of fun things you can do with this vellum, like color in on the back side and use a stylus to push dimension into it.  But here I just used it simply – with a beautiful color like Coastal Cabana cardstock placed behind it so the color can shine through.
  • I love blues and purples together, and so I jumped immediately to my favorite purple – Rich Razzleberry – for the sentiment.  Here’s the second Sale-A-Bration product in my card – Big Day stamp set.  I used it for the “happy birthday” saying.  But what to do to make the sentiment really stand out? I heat embossed it by stamping in VersaMark ink, sprinkling on Silver Embossing Powder and heat embossing it with the Heat Tool.
  • I needed a bit more silver on my card to really tie it together so I used a Silver Button with two fibers attached.  This is the third Sale-A-Bration product on my card – the Coastal Cabana ribbon from the Best Year Ever Accessory Pack.  I separated the vanilla twine away from the silver fibers of the Silver Baker’s Twine and added them in as well.  Don’t forget a package of Glue Dots – they’re the very best adhesive for adding embellishments to your card.

In Colors
And speaking of Coastal Cabana, it is one of the five 2013-15 In Colors that will be leaving us very soon.  Not sure how I’m going to design without this gorgeous blue!  Be sure to grab all of these beautiful colors before they go on the retiring list in April.  They’ll only be available “while supplies last” and in past years they’ve flown off the shelves.  And, you might as well get Sale-A-Bration benefits while stocking up on these soon-to-be-gone colors!

And why not add on some of this week’s Weekly Deals!  If you don’t own one, you’ve just gotta grab a Magnetic Platform for your Big Shot!  And while you’re at it, there are lots and lots of accessories, too!  Here are your sale item:

Happy Birthdays with Hello You Thinlits

Happy Birthday 3

I’ve always maintained that a good, solid layout and some pretty designer paper is just about all you need to create a beautiful card!  I had quite a few birthdays to get ready for this month, and so I thought I’d see how this great layout translated to some of my favorite papers and color schemes.  All the cards use the Hello You Thinlits with the Big Shot to cut out the script “happy” and Four You stamp set for the “Birthday” stamp.

On the card above, I’ve paired my basics with the Stacked with Love Designer Paper Stack.  “happy” is cut out using Silver Foil Paper, and “Birthday” is heat embossed using Silver Embossing Powder.  Hearts come from the Heart Border Punch punched out in Calypso Coral cardstock.  Be sure to pop up the “Birthday” sentiment on Dimensionals.

Happy Birthday 2

For this card, I used Birthday Bash Designer Paper, Night of Navy cardstock for the “happy” and white embossing powder on the Night of Navy cardstock for “Birthday”.  Three Calypso Coral Candy Dots are my accent in the corner.

Happy Birthday 1

This card uses the Spring Flowers Embossing Folder and Big Shot on the Wild Wasabi cardstock and for the tulip print, a piece from Painted Blooms Designer Paper.  Both the “happy” cardstock and the ink for stamping “Birthday” are Blackberry BlissCandy Dots are from the same Subtles package as those from the above card – I used Soft Sky ones this time.

Bravo for Paws!

Bravo paws

My youngest grandson is turning 5!  I can’t believe how these years have flown!  He’s a huge fan of Paw Patrol and his mom has themed his birthday party around it.  So it was off to my stampin’ studio to figure out how to translate that theme into a card.

  • “Wow” kinda summed up my disbelief that he’s turning 5, so I pulled out the Bravo stamp set.  It’s also a little cheesy but I kept thinking “wow wow” for “bow wow” – I know it’s a stretch!
  • The paw is made with the Hearts Thinlits and Sm. Oval Punch.  I popped them up on Dimensionals for more of a 3D effect.
  • My color scheme replicated “Chase” who looks like this (for those of you without a 5-year-old boy)!  Guess I maybe should have used Chocolate Chip instead of Basic Black!
  • The Star Embossing Folder created the fun background on the Crushed Curry cardstock.
  • A fun accent for a young boy is the black and white Baker’s Twine.  Not much else needed!

Fun with Stampin’ Up! Decorative Masks

Dots & Stripes decorative masks card collection

Hubby was away all day today, and I needed a break from packing to move, so I decided to play with the new Dots & Stripes Decorative Masks by Stampin’ Up!  If you haven’t noticed them yet, they’re on page 205 in the 2014-15 Annual Catalog.  There are two sets – Hearts & Stars and the ones I chose to use, Dots & Stripes.

There are several ways to apply ink to the Masks.  For my cards today, I chose to fill several Stampin’ Spritzers with rubbing alcohol and Ink Refills.  It takes quite a few drops of reinker – just add more if your color isn’t as vibrant as you’d like.  Then simply use your spritzers to add color to your cardstock.

I took pictures of the steps along the way so that I could explain how I achieved the variegated colors.

First, I laid down a piece of Stampin’ Up! Grid Paper.  Next came a piece of 5-1/4″ x 4″ Whisper White Cardstock.  Then using my grid paper to line everything up, I laid on my Decorative Mask.  You’ll see I have my Stampin’ Spritzers already filled and ready.  I’ve used Daffodil Delight, Old Olive and Night of Navy on my first card then Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Melon Mambo on the other three.

Mask 1

I started by spritzing on Daffodil Delight over the first two rows of the Decorative Mask.  Give a firm push all the way down and keep the spritzer moving from left to right.

Mask 2

Next I spritzed on Old Olive, trying to get a bit on the second row of the Daffodil Delight and also covering a row or two of the remaining dots.

Mask 3

The last spritzing, I used the Night of Navy spritzer to spray a bit into the Olive and the final row of dots.

Decorative Mask dots and stripes 5

Pick it up carefully after you’ve done all your spritzing so the ink on the mask doesn’t run off onto your cardstock.

And here’s the finished product!  I loved the background so much that I simply added a sentiment and no embellishments.  The skinny black border helped the colors pop out.  “Hello There” sentiment is from the Hello There stamp set.

Decorative Mask dots and stripes blue

Next I tried Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Melon Mambo with a sentiment from Geometrical.

Decorative Mask dots and stripes 4

Then I got the idea to spritz at a diagonal!  Oh, this is so much fun and addicting!  Here I used a sentiment from Fabulous Four stamp set.

Decorative Mask dots and stripes 3

And finally, rather than washing off my mask, I set a piece of Whisper White cardstock on top of the mask to soak up the excess ink and got the reverse design.  I think this is actually my favorite!  Sentiment is from Lots of Thanks stamp set.

Decorative Mask dots and stripes 2

To clean off the mask, I just ran it under warm water and blotted it dry with an old towel.  I can’t wait to use all of the other masks now!  So fun, quick and easy – and WOW!

Leave me a comment and let me know which card you like best!  If there are at least 5 comments, I’ll randomly choose one to win a FREE Dots & Stripes Decorative Mask set!  Customers only, please – no demonstrators!  The winner will be chosen on Thursday, August 7th, and posted on my website, so check back to see if you’ve won!
