Candy Cane Lane Anniversary

candycaneanniversary

The Candy Cane Lane Suite from Stampin’ Up!’s Holiday Catalog isn’t just for Christmas cards!  I’ve made a pretty anniversary card using the DSP and coordinating ribbon, plus Totally Trees stamp set.  I made several of these cards for my team members who are celebrating an anniversary this month with Stampin’ Up!, but of course, it would also work for a winter wedding anniversary.

  • I started out by stamping the tree image from Totally Trees on Whisper White Cardstock that was cut out with the Lots of Labels Framelit and the Big Shot.  I used Early Espresso ink and staggered the trees.
  • A piece of Silver Doily makes an interesting accent peeking out from under the label!
  • Happy Anniversary is from the Best Birds stamp set.  I cut the ends of the Real Red Cardstock at different angles just for something different.
  • The Designer Paper Strip measures 1″ x 5-1/2″ so that it hangs over the Crumb Cake Cardstock background and onto the Whisper White card base.
  • Take a length of the Real Red 3/4″ Stitched Edge Ribbon, fold it up on itself just a bit, and staple in place before mounting the label/tree piece.

Celebrate Summer Sorbet

Summer Sorbet heart

Lots of different Stampin’ Up! stamp sets and accessories going on in this simple card.  Sometimes one set just won’t do!  Summer Sorbet is a set of really great bold images, but you’ll need to grab your sentiments elsewhere.  And who can resist using the background stamp from Best Birds on everything.  You’ll need that stamp set just for this great stamp alone!

  • My color scheme is a bit unusual for this card, although I think it works – Soft Sky, Smoky Slate, Rose Red, Rich Razzleberry and Peekaboo Peach.
  • The pretty designer paper is from A Little Foxy Paper Stack.  Remember to use the plainer papers with other stamp sets – it doesn’t just coordinate with the fun Foxy Friends stamp set!
  • Love this fun-shaped heart, stamped using a Rose Red stamp pad.  Just cut it out quickly with Paper Snips and pop it up on Dimensionals.
  • The sentiment comes from Thoughtful Banners and is bundled with the Duet Banner Punch to save you 10%.  This combo will become a staple in your card designing!
  • I miss the scallop border punch like crazy.  But fear not – your Layering Squares Framelits will do the trick!  I’ve added a Peekaboo Peach Heart Enamel Shape to coordinate both with the Peekaboo Peach scallops and the heart motif.  These little shapes are so easy to use with self-adhesive backing – you’ll want them in ever color!

An Open Heart for Mother’s Day

AnOpenHeart

Oh, how I love this soon-to-be-retired stamp set called An Open Heart!  It’s just perfect for so many occasions!  I’m posting this today as a Mother’s Day card idea; as a mom, I can’t imagine any more touching sentiment to receive from your child!  But also think anniversary or sympathy cards.

        • Stamping on designer paper is one of my favorite looks.  I’ve used the Farmers Market Designer Series Paper here.  This packet surprises me all the time.  At first look, all you see is fruit and vegetables, but the flip side are some of the nicest neutral papers!  This paper pack is also due to be retired.
        • I doubt that there’s a bird that is colored this way in “real life” but of course as stampers, we have to match our cardstock theme, right?!  I’m also honoring our retiring In Colors – Hello Honey, Lost Lagoon and Mossy Meadow (used as the thin border behind the designer paper).  Watercolor paper is definitely the choice to feature this pretty bird and watercoloring with the Aqua Painter and stamp pads.  Circle Framelits create the backdrop; another retiring product!
        • Also retiring are the Antique Brads – I’ve loved working with these pretty accents!
        • As I created this card, a robin is building her nest right outside my window, busy carrying all sorts of plant material and tucking it in place.  It reminded me of the Linen Thread tied around my card – the perfect texture for a natural look.
        • I swear I won’t every be able to get rid of my Envelope Liner Framelits, even though they’re retiring.  They give such a perfectly coordinated card and really hits it home on the creativity.  Be sure to pick up yours if you don’t already own them – they are truly a “must have” for all of your cards!

All that glitters IS gold

Fabulous Four and Star Framelit with washi tape

I just love all of the gold that Stampin’ Up! has added over this past year!  And like all Stampin’ Up! products, there’s also the beautiful coordination factor that’s a big wow!  I also created another card using our gold products – you can find it here.

I began this card with the idea of using Watercolor Wonder Washi Tape and the Stars Framelits and Big Shot to create a focal point image.  I used one of the Stars Framelits and traced around it on Very Vanilla Cardstock.  Then I filled in the space with the Washi Tape, set the Star Framelit back over the pen lines and ran it through the Big Shot to cut it out.  Here’s a look at what I’m describing:

Star with washi tape

Next I wanted to create a frame around the star using the Gold Foil Sheets.  I used two of the Stars Framelits – the same one with which I cut out the Washi Tape star and also the size below it.  I placed the smaller one inside the larger one, laid them on the Gold Foil Sheet and ran it through the Big Shot.  Here’s a photo of the set up:

Star Framelit with Big Shot

And here’s the card closeup:

Fabulous Four with washi tape white

I added Gold Baker’s Twine and one of the sentiment from Fabulous Four stamp set stamped with an Encore Gold  stamp pad.  I really wanted the star to stick out off of the card, but that posed a problem for putting it in an envelope.  But no fear – with the Envelope Punch Board, you’re able to create any size envelope you choose!  So I made my envelope 6″ x 4-3/4″ and it slipped right in.

But why stop there?  If I’m creating a custom envelope, I might as well dress it up a bit, right?  So I made an additional envelope base then cut across the bottom and sides to create a liner.

measuring envelope for liner

Then I placed my rows of Washi Tape all along the part of the envelope that would fit down inside the outer envelope.  Once on, I trimmed down the Washi Tape and also trimmed the liner so it would slide down inside the envelope base.

I think this special card will be for my husband’s uncle who is turning 80 next weekend.  He and his wife are also celebrating 60 years of marriage!  Gold will be perfect!

World of Dreams

World of Dreams

This card really shows off the beautiful All Abloom Designer Series Paper Stack – perfect designer paper for card makers since it’s 4-1/2″ x 6-1/2″ and just $6.95 for 48 sheets!  I’ve made a card HERE using the same All Abloom paper but a different sheet from the stack.

  • This pretty silhouette image comes from World of Dreams stamp set.  This stamp set comes with a couple of terrific sentiments, but they took up too much space on my tag.  So I turned to what is sure to be everyone’s “go to” sentiment stamp set this year – And Many More.  There are 23 different sentiments all in this perfect set for $26.95 in clear.  And I love the “happy together” with the two birds on their nest – perfect for an anniversary card.
  • I believe this is my first card using the yummy new 1/4″ Cotton Ribbon.  Stampin’ Up! added so many new ribbons this year, and this is my very favorite.  It’s so nice and soft and comes in 12 different colors.  Would you like to receive a little of every color?  Then my Ribbon Share is for you!  You’ll get 2 yds. of all 12 colors for just $17.25.  While you’re at it, pick up a share of the new Thick Baker’s Twine (shown here in Strawberry Slush) in all of the 2013-15 In Colors – 2 yds. each of 5 colors plus 3 yds of each of the 7 new colors of the regular Baker’s Twine, all for just $6.25.  Click HERE to read more about my 2014-15 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog Shares and order yours today!
  • Did anyone catch my mistake on this card?  I used the Scallop Trim Border Punch for the Daffodil Delight cardstock between the two designer papers, and when I went to look up the item code for that particular product, I realized that it had retired!  I’ll have to find another favorite border punch to use in the future, but I couldn’t “waste” the opportunity to share my card with you!

  • A couple of sweet little Rhinestones finish off the hearts for this quick card.  I hope you liked seeing these two new stamp sets paired together!

High Tide Best Mate

 best mate

This card is so easy with the help of the terrific designer paper prints found in High Tide Designer Series Paper and the coordinating stamp set Hello, Sailor.

  • Double matting this pretty paper with a Pacific Point card base and a small frame of Summer Starfruit cardstock really makes the designer paper stand out.
  • The beautifully coordinating Pacific Point Striped Grosgrain Ribbon is the perfect accent.
  • I love our ability to create wonderful framed images using the layering of the Deco Label Framelits.

  • I also used a couple of Silver Mini Brads on the sides of the sentiment.

This card would be perfect for your "best mate" for a birthday, anniversary, or just because!

Label Card Thinlits Die

Jens make and take

There's nothing more stunning than a black and white (or vanilla!) card with a hint of red.  Here's a card we made at our last team get together using the Label Card Thinlits Die.  Everyone loved seeing how easy this wow card really is.

  • The Modern Medley Designer Series Paper takes center stage here with the crisp black and vanilla look.  It's great because all of the papers in the packet can be used interchangeably.
  • One in a Million stamp set has been a real hit – so many great sentiments all in one set.
  • The tiny heart comes from the Owl Builder Punch, and a couple of small Rhinestones are a perfect accent.
  • Tie a piece of Basic Black 1/8" Taffet Ribbon and you're done!  Easy as that!

Guest Designer – Phyl Lyons

Phyl's bird

Good friend and fabulous stamper Phyl Lyons created this card for me, and I just had to share!

  • Colors are Pear Pizzazz, Calypso Coral and Whisper White.  Aren't you happy Pear is back?!
  • Background cardstock is run through the Big Shot with the Chevron Embossing Folder.
  • The Doily creates the perfect backdrop for the next two circle images.  The plaid comes from Kind & Cozy stamp set, and the pretty bird is from Simply Sketched which is a hostess-exclusive stamp set.
  • The sentiment is also from a hostess-exclusive stamp set called Express Yourself.  This is a fantastically versatile stamp set with 12 of the most popular greetings.
  • Calypso Coral Chevron Ribbon gives a pretty accent.

Afternoon Daydream Simply Scrappin’ Kit

Truly one of my favorite products in the Stampin' Up! catalog is the Simply Scrappin' Kits.  You can find them on pages 167 & 168 in the Annual Catalog and on page 9 in the Holiday Catalog.  These sweet sets pack a real punch – at just $21.95 per kit, I was able to make all of the above projects – 4 12"x12" scrapbook pages and 8 cards – plus have pieces left over!  Here's what each kit contains:

  • 8 sheets of 12" x 12" card stock, 2 of each of 4 colors
  • 6 sheets of 12" x 12" double-sided designer paper, 3 each of 2 designs
  • 3 12" x 12" sheets of self-adhesive card stock stickers, each sheet having double the stickers

I chose Afternoon Daydream Simply Scrappin' Kit for the projects above.  I used mainly the kit contents and added a few embellishments like brads, buttons and ribbon, and I used lots of different sentiments from my stash of stamp sets.  You'll also want to consider the Daydream Medallions stamp set that coordinates with this kit.  They work really well together!  Over the next few posts, I'll break down all of the above projects and give you close-ups of the photos as well as a supply list for each.

To give you an idea of what the kit contains, the base of the card, the designer paper to the right, the strip along the bottom and the butterfly all come in the kit.  I added pieces of Primrose Petals and Whisper White card stocks to the mix, as well as a couple of Rhinestones to the center of the butterfly.  The white card stock is punched with the Scallop Trim Border Punch, and the Primrose Petals card stock is run through the Big Shot with the Fancy Fan Embossing Folder.  Sentiment is from A Word For You stamp set.

THINGS YOU'LL NEED:
Item No. 126927 Afternoon Daydream Simply Scrappin' Kit $21.95
Item No. 127751 Fancy Folds Textured Impressions Embossing Folder $7.95

Item No. 117032 A Word For You wood $21.95 OR
Item No. 120528 A Word For You clear $16.95

For this card, the base of the card plus designer paper and bottom circle are from the kit.  The top motif is created with Daydream Medallions stamp set, Primrose Petals stamp pad and the coordinating Floral Frames Framelits.  Flourish is from Everything Eleanor stamp set.  Sentiment is from Petite Pairs.  There's also a Pool Party Designer Printed Brad in the center.

THINGS YOU'LL NEED:
Item No. 126927 Afternoon Daydream Simply Scrappin' Kit $21.95
Item No. 118402 Scallop Trim Border Punch $15.95

Item No. 122497 Petite Pairs clear $20.95
Item No. 122940 Designer Printed Brads $7.95

My third card uses kit supplies for the card base, the designer paper and both of the flower motifs.  I've added a 3" circle of Primrose Petals card stock using the Big Shot and the 3" Circle Originals Die, white card stock to stamp the sentiment on using Blessings from Heaven stamp set and Pool Party Baker's Twine and a More Mustard Button for accents.

Beautiful Friend

This beautiful card was created by my daughter and team leader Aly Schilling.  Aly sent this to me as part of her team, but it has a special place in my heart because we're friends as well.  It's a simple card using Love Letter Designer Series Paper, Chantilly Crochet Trim and a Rhinestone Jewel on the stamped heart from I Heart Hearts, but oh, so pretty!  You could certainly send this card to a friend at any time of the year!
